Most of us are not Madison Cawthorns
Ugh. I hate this. Every time some dimwit with a bullhorn and a spotlight jumps up and crows about their home-schooled history, I cringe.
Today, it’s this, at a political rally featuring Kyle Rittenhouse(😡):
I can’t even believe that I’m writing anything about this ignominious little piece of shit, but here we are. If you’re not familiar with him (lucky you), here’s a primer:
The kind of “homeschooling” that gave us Madison Cawthorn is not what most of us are doing. There’s a certain brand of drop-out that the far right, evangelical crowd builds, and they do it with lies, indoctrination, and an underpinning of white supremacy. It’s monstrous. And it gives the rest of us a bad name.
I homeschooled four kids in a large, lively community of like-minded — open-minded — people. We are professors, artists, musicians, writers, lawyers, scientists, bakers, farmers, on and on — but…
